On March 25, 2008 the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT), in cooperation with the City of Deadwood initiated the development of a Pedestrian Circulation and Enhancement Study for the City of Deadwood. The purpose of this study is to:
Develop an implementation strategy that will assess existing and future pedestrian demand and needs within the City of Deadwood
Identify locations in the study area that are not in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504
Establish performance standards, evaluate alternatives, and refine existing or recommend new pedestrian services in the study area
Prepare a plan for coordinating pedestrian investments to achieve a system which is integrated with local, state, and federal plans and regulations
Create a final product for use by City and State which addresses policy and operational issues affecting the implementation of recommended pedestrian improvements
A Study Advisory Team has been established to guide the development of this study. Representatives of the Study Advisory Team include:
In addition to these representatives, two citizens will be added to serve on the Study Advisory Team. These individuals will be identified at the first public meeting by asking for volunteers. The selection of the volunteer members will be by the initial Study Advisory Team at a point in time after the first public meeting.
